Sell locally without cash: PIN Pickup explained

Keep a local sale in the app, with payment before the handover and a PIN to confirm acceptance after inspection.

  2. 02Use payment and acceptance as separate steps
  3. 03Let the buyer inspect properly
  4. 04Budget for both sides
  1. Set the collection details in the listing

Describe the item’s size, condition and any access needs. Agree the collection plan in the app so the buyer knows what they need to check and transport.

  2. Use payment and acceptance as separate steps

Check the paid order before the item leaves your hands. The buyer’s inspection comes before PIN acceptance.

Stripe processes payments and holds funds until the order completes.

PIN Pickup is an in-person handover. The buyer inspects the item before sharing their six-digit PIN; the seller enters it in the app to complete the order. The PIN is acceptance. There is no shipping, tracking or post-handover dispute window.

  3. Let the buyer inspect properly

For furniture, inspect joints, drawers and damage. For a working device, allow a demonstration. Resolve a mismatch before anyone shares or enters the acceptance PIN.

  4. Budget for both sides

A cash-free handover still has the standard contributions shown in the app.

SilentCover® is a discretionary protection service under the SilentSale® Terms. Both sides protected equally: buyer and seller each contribute £0.30 + 3% of the item price. Decisions depend on the Terms and evidence.

£10 item: buyer pays £0.60 SilentCover®, seller pays £0.60. Before delivery and any eligible adjustments, the buyer pays £10.60 and the seller receives £9.40.
