Will the sofa fit up the stairs or in the car?

What do I measure before anyone sets off?

Measure the sofa, wardrobe, bed or table at its widest points, including feet and handles. Then measure the front door, every internal door, and the narrowest gap on the route.

On stairs, measure the width and the height of the turn. A long piece often fails at the corner, not on the straight. If a leg or a door comes off, measure it both ways and say so in the listing. Start from how to sell furniture locally.

Will it fit in the car, or only in the room?

Measure the boot opening and the interior, not the parking space. A tape on the living-room wall does not tell you the tailgate height.

Wardrobe sides, a table top and a bed frame each have one long edge. If that edge is longer than the opening, it is not going in that car. Read collection-only items and, for a machine, selling a washing machine for collection.

What if it will not go up the stairs?

Stop. Forcing it can damage the walls and the item. Do not share a PIN, and do not hand over cash, for a piece you cannot take away.

Who carries it?

Agree this before anyone travels. A sofa or a washing machine needs two people who can lift. A wardrobe on a stair turn may need a third.
