- Read the buyer total and the seller total for that price before you publish.
- Use the label the order gives you, and keep the drop-off proof.

What does a private seller pay on Vinted and on eBay?
Both published seller rules can show no selling fee, and they are not the same deal. Vinted's how-it-works page says listing is free and selling fees are zero. eBay's private-seller page, updated 30 September 2026, says there is no final value fee on an eligible UK private sale, with 300 free listings a month.
The buyer still pays a charge on both. On Vinted it is the Vinted fee. On eBay it is eBay’s Buyer Protection fee, paid by the buyer, and a £10 listing still pays the seller £10 on the page eBay wrote for sellers.
Vinted's how-it-works page says you list for free, there are zero selling fees, and you are paid once the buyer confirms everything is OK. Source
People still search for Vinted’s Buyer Protection fee. Vinted's price list, updated 8 October 2026, calls the checkout charge the Vinted fee. It is paid when you use Buy now. It is usually 3% to 8% plus £0.30 to £0.80, and it varies with the item, the order value and whether the order is one item or a bundle. The total is shown at checkout. Source
eBay's private-seller fees page, last updated 30 September 2026, says selling is free for UK private sellers, excluding Cars, Motorcycles and Vehicles. Those sales do not pay a final value fee or a regulatory operating fee. You get 300 free listings a month, then 35p for each extra listing that month. Optional upgrades and delivery outside the UK have their own fees. Source
eBay's seller page on the buyer charge says eBay’s Buyer Protection fee is added to the item price and paid by the buyer to eBay. It excludes Cars, Motorcycles and Vehicles, Classified Ads and Property. The fee is £0.10 per item, plus 7% of the price up to £20, 4% of the slice from £20 to £300, and 2% of the slice from £300 to £4,000. The page says a £10 listing pays the seller £10. Its £20 example is a £1.50 fee, so the buyer sees £21.50 plus postage. Source
How do Simple Delivery and a Vinted label differ?
Vinted gives you a prepaid label and five days to drop it off. eBay's Simple Delivery page says that programme is the only delivery method for eligible private listings, generally at £750 or under. Light, cheap categories can opt out. Clothes that are not a letter under 100g will usually stay on Simple Delivery. Check the listing screen.
The report clocks differ too. Vinted asks for a delivery problem within 2 days. eBay's money-back page says the buyer should contact the seller within 30 days if the order has not arrived or is not as described. People search for that as INAD.

Why does it look like eBay is holding my money?
eBay's getting-paid page sets more than one clock. A tracked parcel is typically available 2 calendar days after delivery is confirmed. From 6 August 2025, a private seller with a strong sales history is typically paid within 24 hours of the buyer's payment. Collection is within 24 hours of the 6-digit code or the QR scan.
Vinted's balance page is a different clock: pending until the buyer completes the order or the two days pass, then within 2 days to the available balance. Open the balance in the app. An email that says the money is waiting is not the balance.
eBay's getting-paid page says that from 6 August 2025, private sellers with a strong sales history typically receive funds within 24 hours of the buyer's payment. Tracked post is typically available 2 calendar days after delivery is confirmed. A tracked order of £750 or under can be available straight away if the buyer leaves positive feedback after that confirmation. Missing tracking is 14 calendar days from the order date. Collection funds are available within 24 hours of the 6-digit code or the buyer's QR scan. Source
Vinted's balance page says a sale shows as pending and cannot be spent yet. After the order is marked delivered, the buyer has 2 days to complete it or submit a claim. When the order is completed, the payment moves to the available balance within 2 days, and you can withdraw it to your bank. The same page says a Pro order completes automatically after 14 days unless the buyer raises an issue. Source
Which wardrobe sale suits Vinted, eBay, or another app?
Match the app to the item in front of you. Look at the fee on that order, how the item will travel, and what the help page says if it is not as described. A large wardrobe audience and a doorstep collection are different jobs.
SilentSale® is a UK marketplace for private individuals, and it is one option beside the apps in the table. Buyer and seller each contribute £0.30 + 3% of the item price to SilentCover® (£0.60 each on a £10 item), a discretionary protection service. Stripe processes the payment and holds the funds until the order is completed. Tracked Shipping has 72 hours after delivery to report an issue. PIN Pickup means the buyer pays in the app, inspects in person, then shares a 6-digit PIN. There is no cash, and there is no dispute step after that PIN.
Use Vinted when you want its clothes audience and you accept the buyer's Vinted fee and the two-day report window. Use eBay when you want the private-seller listing allowance and you can follow Simple Delivery on an eligible parcel. Read Vinted vs Depop if the other wardrobe app is the one you are leaving.
There are no listing costs. The standard seller contribution to SilentCover® is deducted after a successful sale; review your earnings preview.
Stripe processes payments and holds funds until the order completes.
For Shipping, report problems within 72 hours after confirmed delivery, or the collection scan for a locker or parcel-shop order. Confirming receipt closes the window early, so inspect first.
PIN Pickup is an in-person handover. The buyer inspects the item before sharing their six-digit PIN; the seller enters it in the app to complete the order. The PIN is acceptance. There is no shipping, tracking or post-handover dispute window.
What should you read before you relist the clothes?
Run one garment through both checkouts and keep the screenshot of the fee beside the order, not as proof of payment. Then read selling fees compared, Vinted alternatives, eBay alternatives and SilentSale® vs eBay.
A missing parcel has its own steps in what if my parcel is lost and item not received. The wider choice is in best app to sell clothes UK.
Check the live order in the app you opened yourself before you post a parcel or hand an item over. A chat message, a screenshot or an email is not the order.
Questions people ask
Is Vinted or eBay better for a small clothes parcel?
Use the app whose buyers already look for that brand and size. Then compare the fee and the label, not a slogan. Vinted uses a prepaid label and a two-day report window. Eligible eBay private listings use Simple Delivery, and the money-back page gives the buyer 30 days to contact the seller.
Who pays eBay’s Buyer Protection fee on a private clothes listing?
eBay's seller page says the buyer pays eBay’s Buyer Protection fee. A £10 item still pays the seller £10 on that page. The fee on the published bands is £0.10 plus 7% of the price up to £20. Vehicles, classified ads and property are excluded.
Can I opt out of Simple Delivery for a jumper?
eBay's Simple Delivery page says opt-out is only for specific categories priced at £20 or under that are typically letter or large letter size and 100g or under. A jumper is unlikely to qualify. The listing screen shows whether custom postage is offered.
What does INAD mean on an eBay clothes order?
Sellers use INAD for an item that is not as described. eBay's money-back page tells the buyer to contact the seller within 30 days of the actual or estimated delivery date if the order has not arrived or is not as described. Describe flaws in the listing before you post.
