What is the best app to sell clothes in the UK?

There is no single best app to sell clothes in the UK. Match the fee, the label and the report window to the garment.

What to do

  1. Photograph flaws, labels and size before you write the price.
  2. Compare the seller total and the buyer total on that price, including postage.
  3. Use the label the order provides, and drop it off within the stated time.
  4. Keep payout questions inside the app's balance, not in an email link.
  1. 01Which clothes app publishes which fee?
  2. 02How do you post a jumper, a coat, or a pair of shoes?
  3. 03When should the payout show in your bank?
  4. 04Which app suits this pile of clothes?
  5. 05What should you read before the first listing?
  1. Which clothes app publishes which fee?

Start with the garment, not a ranking. Vinted publishes free listing and zero selling fees, then a buyer Vinted fee at checkout. Depop publishes no UK selling fee, then processing of 2.9% plus £0.30, and a buyer Marketplace fee of up to 5% plus up to £1. eBay publishes no final value fee for an eligible UK private sale, and the buyer pays eBay’s Buyer Protection fee.

Optional bumps, boosts and postage sit on top. A 12% Depop boost applies only if you turn it on for a new UK listing.

Vinted's how-it-works page says you list for free, there are zero selling fees, and you are paid once the buyer confirms everything is OK. Source

People still search for Vinted’s Buyer Protection fee. Vinted's price list, updated 8 October 2026, calls the checkout charge the Vinted fee. It is paid when you use Buy now. It is usually 3% to 8% plus £0.30 to £0.80, and it varies with the item, the order value and whether the order is one item or a bundle. The total is shown at checkout. Source

Depop's seller-fees page, updated 21 July 2026, says no selling fee is charged to UK sellers. The UK payment processing fee on Depop Payments, via Stripe, is 2.9% + £0.30 on the item price plus shipping and any applicable taxes, deducted before the bank payout. An optional boosting fee of 12% applies to new UK listings from 23 March 2026. Source

Depop's Marketplace fee page, updated 21 July 2026, says the fee has applied in the UK since 15 April 2024. For a UK buyer paying in GBP it is up to 5% of the item price plus up to £1, excluding taxes and shipping. Checkout shows the exact amount, and the fee is refunded if the item is refunded. Source

eBay's private-seller fees page, last updated 30 September 2026, says selling is free for UK private sellers, excluding Cars, Motorcycles and Vehicles. Those sales do not pay a final value fee or a regulatory operating fee. You get 300 free listings a month, then 35p for each extra listing that month. Optional upgrades and delivery outside the UK have their own fees. Source

eBay's seller page on the buyer charge says eBay’s Buyer Protection fee is added to the item price and paid by the buyer to eBay. It excludes Cars, Motorcycles and Vehicles, Classified Ads and Property. The fee is £0.10 per item, plus 7% of the price up to £20, 4% of the slice from £20 to £300, and 2% of the slice from £300 to £4,000. The page says a £10 listing pays the seller £10. Its £20 example is a £1.50 fee, so the buyer sees £21.50 plus postage. Source

  2. How do you post a jumper, a coat, or a pair of shoes?

Photograph the label, the flaws and both sides. Say the size on the label and how the item fits. Vinted's steps use a prepaid label within five days. Depop's Evri label follows the UK Mainland list, with a £20 carrier cap that is separate from the £250 seller-protection limit. Eligible eBay private listings use Simple Delivery.

If the buyer will collect a wedding dress or a bundle that is awkward to post, read the in-person rule. Depop says that handover is outside Depop Protection. Vinted's pages checked here do not state one.

  3. When should the payout show in your bank?

Vinted moves a completed order to the available balance within 2 days, after the buyer has 2 days from delivery to finish or report. Depop's Evri clock is the earlier of 2 business days after delivery or 10 business days after the sale. eBay's tracked clock is typically 2 calendar days after delivery is confirmed, unless a faster private-seller rule applies.

If the balance does not match that page, open the order. Do not chase a link in an email that says the money is ready.

Vinted's balance page says a sale shows as pending and cannot be spent yet. After the order is marked delivered, the buyer has 2 days to complete it or submit a claim. When the order is completed, the payment moves to the available balance within 2 days, and you can withdraw it to your bank. The same page says a Pro order completes automatically after 14 days unless the buyer raises an issue. Source

Depop's UK payout page, updated 11 September 2026, says the sale is paid into your Depop Balance and then sent to your bank through Depop Payments, powered by Stripe. With Depop Shipping via Evri, that send is 2 business days after delivery or 10 business days after the sale, whichever comes first. With your own postage, it is 10 business days after delivery. The bank can then take up to 5 days to show it. The money stays in the balance until a bank account is added and identity is verified. Source

eBay's getting-paid page says that from 6 August 2025, private sellers with a strong sales history typically receive funds within 24 hours of the buyer's payment. Tracked post is typically available 2 calendar days after delivery is confirmed. A tracked order of £750 or under can be available straight away if the buyer leaves positive feedback after that confirmation. Missing tracking is 14 calendar days from the order date. Collection funds are available within 24 hours of the 6-digit code or the buyer's QR scan. Source

  4. Which app suits this pile of clothes?

Match the app to the item in front of you. Look at the fee on that order, how the item will travel, and what the help page says if it is not as described. A large wardrobe audience and a doorstep collection are different jobs.

SilentSale® is a UK marketplace for private individuals, and it is one option beside the apps in the table. Buyer and seller each contribute £0.30 + 3% of the item price to SilentCover® (£0.60 each on a £10 item), a discretionary protection service. Stripe processes the payment and holds the funds until the order is completed. Tracked Shipping has 72 hours after delivery to report an issue. PIN Pickup means the buyer pays in the app, inspects in person, then shares a 6-digit PIN. There is no cash, and there is no dispute step after that PIN.

Use Vinted or Depop when the buyer is looking for wardrobe brands and you will post a small parcel. Use eBay when you want the private-seller allowance and Simple Delivery on an eligible item. Read Vinted vs Depop and Vinted vs eBay for selling clothes before you move a whole wardrobe.

There are no listing costs. The standard seller contribution to SilentCover® is deducted after a successful sale; review your earnings preview.

Stripe processes payments and holds funds until the order completes.

For Shipping, report problems within 72 hours after confirmed delivery, or the collection scan for a locker or parcel-shop order. Confirming receipt closes the window early, so inspect first.

PIN Pickup is an in-person handover. The buyer inspects the item before sharing their six-digit PIN; the seller enters it in the app to complete the order. The PIN is acceptance. There is no shipping, tracking or post-handover dispute window.

  5. What should you read before the first listing?

Write measurements and flaws before you set a price. Then read how to sell clothes online, selling fees compared, Vinted alternatives and SilentSale® vs Vinted.

A lost parcel is covered in what if my parcel is lost. Seller cover in general is in do marketplaces protect sellers.

Check the live order in the app you opened yourself before you post a parcel or hand an item over. A chat message, a screenshot or an email is not the order.

Questions people ask

What should I use for everyday clothes?

Use the app where similar sizes and brands already sell, then check the fee on your price. Vinted suits a simple wardrobe clear-out if you accept the buyer's Vinted fee and a two-day report window. Depop suits the same parcel if you accept processing and the Marketplace fee. eBay suits an eligible private listing on Simple Delivery.

Do I pay Vinted’s Buyer Protection fee as the seller?

Vinted's how-it-works page says selling fees are zero. The price list says the buyer pays the Vinted fee at checkout, usually 3% to 8% plus £0.30 to £0.80. People still search for that charge as Vinted’s Buyer Protection fee.

Can I meet a buyer for a bundle of clothes?

Depop's meeting page says an in-person handover is outside Depop Protection. Vinted's pages checked for this guide do not state an in-person rule. If you need the payment and the acceptance recorded in one order, use an app that describes that handover.

How do I move a lot of Vinted or eBay listings?

Export your own listings and import them as private drafts. Check photos, price and category before you publish. Importing does not delete the original listing. Mark the other copy sold yourself when the item goes.
