Vinted vs Depop: which is better for selling clothes?

Compare Vinted and Depop on the seller charge, the buyer checkout fee, postage and when the payout is sent.

What to do

  1. Price the same garment on Vinted and on Depop, including postage.
  2. Read who pays the checkout charge, and when the balance says the payout is sent.
  3. Post only after the paid order is open in the app you launched yourself.
  4. If you meet in person, read that app's rule before you treat the sale as covered.

  1. What does Vinted charge, and what does Depop charge?

Read both checkout screens for the same item price before you decide. Vinted's seller side is published as free listing and zero selling fees. The buyer pays the Vinted fee. Depop's UK seller side is a payment processing charge, not a selling fee, and the buyer pays a Marketplace fee.

A headline fee is not the total. Postage, an optional bump or boost, and the payout clock all change what you keep.

Vinted's how-it-works page says you list for free, there are zero selling fees, and you are paid once the buyer confirms everything is OK. Source

People still search for Vinted’s Buyer Protection fee. Vinted's price list, updated 8 October 2026, calls the checkout charge the Vinted fee. It is paid when you use Buy now. It is usually 3% to 8% plus £0.30 to £0.80, and it varies with the item, the order value and whether the order is one item or a bundle. The total is shown at checkout. Source

Depop's seller-fees page, updated 21 July 2026, says no selling fee is charged to UK sellers. The UK payment processing fee on Depop Payments, via Stripe, is 2.9% + £0.30 on the item price plus shipping and any applicable taxes, deducted before the bank payout. An optional boosting fee of 12% applies to new UK listings from 23 March 2026. Source

Depop's Marketplace fee page, updated 21 July 2026, says the fee has applied in the UK since 15 April 2024. For a UK buyer paying in GBP it is up to 5% of the item price plus up to £1, excluding taxes and shipping. Checkout shows the exact amount, and the fee is refunded if the item is refunded. Source

  2. How do postage, problem reports and meeting up compare?

Vinted's selling steps use a prepaid label and a five-day drop-off. Depop's Evri label is limited to the UK Mainland list on its shipping policy, and the carrier cap on that policy is £20. Depop's separate seller-protection page goes up to £250 when you use its label.

Neither help page describes a SilentSale®-style acceptance PIN. Depop says a face-to-face handover is outside Depop Protection. Vinted's pages checked here do not state an in-person acceptance rule, so that cell says Not stated.

  3. When do Vinted and Depop say the money is sent?

If you are searching because an app is holding my money, open the balance in the app rather than a payout email. Vinted keeps the sale pending until the order is completed, then moves it to the available balance within 2 days. Depop sends an Evri-label sale on the earlier of 2 business days after delivery or 10 business days after the sale, and your own postage waits 10 business days after delivery.

The bank can still take extra days after Depop sends the payment. Depop also keeps the money in the balance until a bank account and an identity check are on the account.

Vinted's balance page says a sale shows as pending and cannot be spent yet. After the order is marked delivered, the buyer has 2 days to complete it or submit a claim. When the order is completed, the payment moves to the available balance within 2 days, and you can withdraw it to your bank. The same page says a Pro order completes automatically after 14 days unless the buyer raises an issue. Source

Depop's UK payout page, updated 11 September 2026, says the sale is paid into your Depop Balance and then sent to your bank through Depop Payments, powered by Stripe. With Depop Shipping via Evri, that send is 2 business days after delivery or 10 business days after the sale, whichever comes first. With your own postage, it is 10 business days after delivery. The bank can then take up to 5 days to show it. The money stays in the balance until a bank account is added and identity is verified. Source

  4. Which clothes sale suits Vinted, Depop, or another app?

Match the app to the item in front of you. Look at the fee on that order, how the item will travel, and what the help page says if it is not as described. A large wardrobe audience and a doorstep collection are different jobs.

SilentSale® is a UK marketplace for private individuals, and it is one option beside the apps in the table. Buyer and seller each contribute £0.30 + 3% of the item price to SilentCover® (£0.60 each on a £10 item), a discretionary protection service. Stripe processes the payment and holds the funds until the order is completed. Tracked Shipping has 72 hours after delivery to report an issue. PIN Pickup means the buyer pays in the app, inspects in person, then shares a 6-digit PIN. There is no cash, and there is no dispute step after that PIN.

Use Vinted when its wardrobe audience and zero selling fees matter, and you can live with the buyer's Vinted fee plus a two-day report window. Use Depop when you accept the processing charge and the buyer's Marketplace fee, and you will post with its label if you want the seller cover. For an eBay private-seller comparison, read Vinted vs eBay for selling clothes.

There are no listing costs. The standard seller contribution to SilentCover® is deducted after a successful sale; review your earnings preview.

Stripe processes payments and holds funds until the order completes.

For Shipping, report problems within 72 hours after confirmed delivery, or the collection scan for a locker or parcel-shop order. Confirming receipt closes the window early, so inspect first.

PIN Pickup is an in-person handover. The buyer inspects the item before sharing their six-digit PIN; the seller enters it in the app to complete the order. The PIN is acceptance. There is no shipping, tracking or post-handover dispute window.

  5. What should you check before you move a wardrobe?

Price one real item on each app and write down the seller total, the buyer total and the postage. Then read selling fees compared, how to sell clothes online, SilentSale® vs Vinted and SilentSale® vs Depop.

If you already have a Vinted export, the importer can turn it into private drafts. Read Vinted alternatives, a suspended Vinted account and the wider best app to sell clothes UK guide.

Check the live order in the app you opened yourself before you post a parcel or hand an item over. A chat message, a screenshot or an email is not the order.

Questions people ask

Should I list a dress on Vinted or on Depop?

List it where the buyer for that garment already looks, then compare the checkout on that price. Vinted publishes zero selling fees and a buyer Vinted fee. Depop publishes no UK selling fee, a processing charge, and a buyer Marketplace fee. Postage and the payout clock change what you keep.

Is Vinted’s Buyer Protection fee the same as the Vinted fee?

People still type Vinted’s Buyer Protection fee. The UK price list updated on 8 October 2026 calls the checkout charge the Vinted fee. It is usually 3% to 8% plus £0.30 to £0.80, and the order summary shows the total.

Does Depop still take a selling fee in the UK?

Depop's seller-fees page says UK sellers are not charged a selling fee. You still pay payment processing of 2.9% plus £0.30 on the item, shipping and applicable taxes. A boost, if you choose one, is a separate 12% on new UK listings from 23 March 2026.

What if the buyer says the parcel never came?

Use the report route on that order. Vinted asks the buyer to report within 2 days of delivery. Depop's buyer page gives 30 days from purchase for an eligible Depop Payments order. Keep the drop-off proof with the order.
