What is the best app to sell electronics in the UK?
There is no single best app to sell electronics in the UK. A phone, a console and a washing machine are not the same sale.
What to do
- Test the device and write the faults, the storage and what is in the box.
- Check the postage limit on that app before you promise a label.
- Remove your accounts and SIM before handover, and keep the serial number off the public photos.
- Release the item only when the paid order, or the collection code, is in the app.

Which app states a rule that actually fits a phone or a console?
Test the device and write the faults before you compare fees. eBay's private-seller page has no final value fee on an eligible sale, and the buyer pays eBay’s Buyer Protection fee. Simple Delivery does not cover every phone: the page says some phones priced above £300 are not eligible.
Gumtree's delivery payment is for eligible items up to £250, so a dearer console may not have that checkout. Facebook's UK help page states no electronics fee. It says: Purchase Protection isn't available in your location right now. Vinted's price list offers buyers an optional electronics check for £5, shown on the item.
eBay's private-seller fees page, last updated 30 September 2026, says selling is free for UK private sellers, excluding Cars, Motorcycles and Vehicles. Those sales do not pay a final value fee or a regulatory operating fee. You get 300 free listings a month, then 35p for each extra listing that month. Optional upgrades and delivery outside the UK have their own fees. Source
eBay's seller page on the buyer charge says eBay’s Buyer Protection fee is added to the item price and paid by the buyer to eBay. It excludes Cars, Motorcycles and Vehicles, Classified Ads and Property. The fee is £0.10 per item, plus 7% of the price up to £20, 4% of the slice from £20 to £300, and 2% of the slice from £300 to £4,000. The page says a £10 listing pays the seller £10. Its £20 example is a £1.50 fee, so the buyer sees £21.50 plus postage. Source
eBay's Simple Delivery page says it is the only delivery method for private sellers listing eligible items on eBay.co.uk. Eligible items are £750 or under. Some phones priced above £300 are not eligible. Opting out is limited to specific light categories at £20 or under, and that £20 is the item price excluding eBay’s Buyer Protection fee. There is no extra cost for the programme, and no transaction fee on its label. Source
Gumtree's online-payments page, dated 16 September 2026, says secure payment for items with delivery enabled is available on eligible items up to £250. A higher price can still be listed, but online payment is not available. For collection with online payment, the seller enters the buyer's 6-digit Collection Code and the funds release then. That step cannot be reversed. Source
Facebook's UK help page, “How Purchase Protection works on Facebook Marketplace”, says: Purchase Protection isn't available in your location right now. Source
Vinted's price list describes an optional Electronics Verification Service the buyer can add. The fee is £5, shown on the item page, and it includes verification plus shipping from the seller to the hub. Source
People still search for Vinted’s Buyer Protection fee. Vinted's price list, updated 8 October 2026, calls the checkout charge the Vinted fee. It is paid when you use Buy now. It is usually 3% to 8% plus £0.30 to £0.80, and it varies with the item, the order value and whether the order is one item or a bundle. The total is shown at checkout. Source
How should you describe a phone, a laptop, or a washing machine?
For a phone, say the model, the storage, the battery screen you can show, and whether it is signed out of your accounts. For a console, list the pads and cables that are actually in the box. For a washing machine, say whether it was run before collection, and that transit bolts are the buyer's to fit for the journey home.
People search for INAD when a device is not as described. eBay's money-back page tells the buyer to contact the seller within 30 days. Vinted asks for a report within 2 days of delivery on an order paid through Vinted. Keep the description specific so that argument is about the facts.

When do you get paid for a posted phone or a collected TV?
eBay's getting-paid page typically releases tracked funds 2 calendar days after delivery is confirmed, or within 24 hours of a collection code. Gumtree releases a delivery order 48 hours after delivery if nobody reports a problem, and releases a collection when you enter the code.
If you are searching "holding my money", open that order's payment line. A parcel marked delivered is not the same as funds in the bank. Read item not received if the buyer says the phone never arrived.
eBay's getting-paid page says that from 6 August 2025, private sellers with a strong sales history typically receive funds within 24 hours of the buyer's payment. Tracked post is typically available 2 calendar days after delivery is confirmed. A tracked order of £750 or under can be available straight away if the buyer leaves positive feedback after that confirmation. Missing tracking is 14 calendar days from the order date. Collection funds are available within 24 hours of the 6-digit code or the buyer's QR scan. Source

It says funds are released 48 hours after delivery if no dispute is raised, or when the buyer confirms they are satisfied. Mangopay holds the payment until then. Source
Vinted's balance page says a sale shows as pending and cannot be spent yet. After the order is marked delivered, the buyer has 2 days to complete it or submit a claim. When the order is completed, the payment moves to the available balance within 2 days, and you can withdraw it to your bank. The same page says a Pro order completes automatically after 14 days unless the buyer raises an issue. Source
Which electronics sale suits which app?
Match the app to the item in front of you. Look at the fee on that order, how the item will travel, and what the help page says if it is not as described. A large wardrobe audience and a doorstep collection are different jobs.
SilentSale® is a UK marketplace for private individuals, and it is one option beside the apps in the table. Buyer and seller each contribute £0.30 + 3% of the item price to SilentCover® (£0.60 each on a £10 item), a discretionary protection service. Stripe processes the payment and holds the funds until the order is completed. Tracked Shipping has 72 hours after delivery to report an issue. PIN Pickup means the buyer pays in the app, inspects in person, then shares a 6-digit PIN. There is no cash, and there is no dispute step after that PIN.
Use eBay for a phone or console you can post, and check Simple Delivery eligibility before you assume the label exists. Use Gumtree when the item is within £250 and you want its delivery or collection code. Use Facebook for a local TV or white-goods collection. Facebook's UK help page says: Purchase Protection isn't available in your location right now. Vinted's optional £5 electronics check is a buyer add-on, not a reason to skip your own description. Read eBay vs Facebook Marketplace.
There are no listing costs. The standard seller contribution to SilentCover® is deducted after a successful sale; review your earnings preview.
Stripe processes payments and holds funds until the order completes.
For Shipping, report problems within 72 hours after confirmed delivery, or the collection scan for a locker or parcel-shop order. Confirming receipt closes the window early, so inspect first.
PIN Pickup is an in-person handover. The buyer inspects the item before sharing their six-digit PIN; the seller enters it in the app to complete the order. The PIN is acceptance. There is no shipping, tracking or post-handover dispute window.
What should you read before you wipe the device and post it?
Sign out, remove the SIM, and keep a private note of the serial number. Do not put the serial number on the public photos. Then read how to sell a phone safely, marketplace scams, do marketplaces protect sellers and SilentSale® vs eBay.
Heavy items such as white goods follow best app to sell furniture UK and collection-only items.
Check the live order in the app you opened yourself before you post a parcel or hand an item over. A chat message, a screenshot or an email is not the order.
Questions people ask
Where should I sell a phone?
Use an app that will take the price and the postage you actually need. eBay states the private-seller fee and says some phones over £300 are outside Simple Delivery. Vinted offers buyers an optional £5 electronics check on the price list. Describe the battery, the screen and any lock before you post.
What is INAD on an electronics order?
INAD is the phrase sellers use when a buyer says the item is not as described. eBay's money-back page says the buyer should contact the seller within 30 days if the order has not arrived or is not as described. Photos of the real device, taken by you, are the useful record.
Can I sell a television for collection on Facebook?
Yes, as a local collection you arrange with the buyer. Facebook's UK help page says: Purchase Protection isn't available in your location right now. Say the size, the stand, and whether the remote is included. Do not hand it over for a screenshot of a banking app.
Why is a console over £250 different on Gumtree?
Gumtree's payments page says online payment for delivery-enabled items is available up to £250. A dearer console can still be listed, but that online delivery payment is not available. Collection, if the advert offers it, is a separate path.
